Privacy Policy

This policy explains how marchoag.com handles your information. The short version: we collect almost nothing, because there is almost nothing to collect.

What this site is

marchoag.com is a personal landing page and project directory operated by Marc Hoag from Marin County, California, United States. It is a simple, static website with no user accounts, no login system, no cookies, and no advertising.

The short version

This site does not collect your personal information. There are no forms, no trackers, no cookies, and no user accounts. We use privacy-friendly analytics that never identify you. You browse, you read, you leave.

What we collect

This site does not actively collect any personal information from visitors. However, like virtually all websites, there are two passive mechanisms to be aware of:

Server logs

Our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and the pages you request. These logs are maintained by the hosting infrastructure and are not accessed, analyzed, or stored by us for any purpose.

Google Fonts

This site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, a third-party service operated by Google LLC. When you visit, your browser connects to Google's servers to fetch font files. Google may log this request in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. We have no access to or control over any data Google may collect through this service.

Plausible Analytics

This site uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics tool. Plausible collects aggregated, anonymous usage data including page views, referrer, browser, operating system, device type, and country. It does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and does not collect personal data.

All data is aggregated and no visitor can be identified. Plausible is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR — no cookie consent banner is required. Data is processed in the EU. Learn more at plausible.io/data-policy.

Things this site does not do

To be explicit about what this site does not do:

Sub-processors

The following third-party services may process data in connection with your visit to marchoag.com. Because this is a static site with no user accounts, no forms, and no cookies, the data involved is minimal and largely limited to standard server-level information.

Service Purpose Data Processed Location
Render Static site hosting Server logs (IP, user agent, timestamps) United States
Google Fonts Typography delivery IP address, browser info Global (Google)
Plausible Analytics Privacy-friendly analytics Page views, referrer, browser, OS, device type, country (all anonymous) European Union
Cloudflare DNS DNS query data Global

GDPR & international privacy

Although marchoag.com is operated from the United States, we respect the privacy rights of visitors worldwide, including those protected under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Legal basis for processing

Our legal basis for processing the limited data described in this policy is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — specifically, the legitimate interest of operating and maintaining the site and understanding aggregate usage through privacy-friendly analytics. Because we do not collect personal data beyond anonymous server logs and cookieless analytics, this processing is minimal and proportionate.

Your GDPR rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — to request correction of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure — to request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to restriction — to request we limit how we process your data
  • Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to object — to object to the processing of your personal data

Because this site does not require accounts and does not use cookies or tracking, most data associated with your visit consists of anonymous server logs that cannot be linked back to you individually.
